How to Make Winning Ad Creatives for a Clothing Brand

Your content is your targeting now. The video formula and the 5-minute static flyers behind our best-performing clothing brand ads, with real results.

By Ray · Updated

On Meta today, the creative does most of the targeting. Meta reads your video or image and finds the people likely to respond to it. So when ads fail, the cause is usually the content, not the settings. You are competing in the same feed as Nike and H&M, and the feed doesn't grade on a curve.

This is the creative formula we use for clothing brands, from videos to 5-minute static flyers.

Organic content and ad content are different jobs

A post that does well on your page sometimes works as an ad and sometimes doesn't. Organic content builds the brand for people who already follow you. Ad content has to stop a stranger mid-scroll and give them a reason to visit your store in a few seconds. Make some content specifically for ads.

The video formula

  1. Offer in the first 3 seconds. Put a text overlay on screen right away: buy one get one, a bundle price, free next-day shipping, a drop date. Give people a reason to keep watching and to click.
  2. Quick cuts. Change the shot every second or two. Slow edits lose people.
  3. Real people wearing it. Customers want to see the clothes on a body, not on a hanger. Friends, creators and good-looking models in a good location all work.
  4. Show the product properly. Some ads push the offer so hard you never actually see the garment. Show the fit, the print and the details.
  5. 12 to 15 seconds. Long enough to show the product and the offer, short enough to watch to the end.
  6. Shoot at 1080p or better. Blurry, low-resolution footage gets punished with higher CPMs.
  7. End with a call to action. "Shop now", "Link below", "Drops Friday 3pm". Some people watch to the end; tell them what to do.
  8. Test 3 to 4 text versions of the same video. The hook line often matters more than the footage.

Test different ideas, not tiny variations

Here is General Public Streetwear at ad level. The best ads are different ideas, not the same video with different captions: a creator-style video (DIVA UGC), an unboxing, a water balloon stunt, a model standing in the street, and a straight buy-one-get-one offer.

General Public Streetwear Ads Manager at ad level: UGC, unboxing, water balloon and offer ads with spend, CPM, CTR, CPC and ROAS
General Public Streetwear, ad level, last 90 days (Jul 31 – Oct 27, 2026). Each row is a different idea: creator video, unboxing, stunt, street shot, straight offer.
  • The unboxing returned 4.35x and Girl Standing 4.46x, the best of the group.
  • The water balloon ad had the best click-through (2.98%) and the cheapest clicks (44¢).
  • The straight BOGO 30% off ad got spend but returned 2.22x. An offer alone isn't enough; it needs a strong visual idea around it.

Across these ads the account spent $10,610.52 and brought back $29,802.27 over 90 days. No single concept carried it; the mix did. Ads in fashion wear out within weeks, so keep at least one new concept going into the account every week.

Static flyers in 5 minutes

Not every winning ad is a video. Some of our best performers are simple flyers made in Adobe Express from a template:

  • One strong product photo, background removed if it helps.
  • The logo.
  • One clear line: "Only $55", "Buy 1 get 1 free", "$99 set".
  • One supporting line: "Next day shipping", "100% cotton".

In one account, a flyer like this spent $500 and brought back $3,800, and another spent $200 to make $1,100. In the video below, Ray builds flyers like these for Merlins Father in a few minutes each. On a retargeting campaign, a single flyer is often enough to bring back people who already looked.

The design doesn't need to be perfect. It needs to be clear at phone size in under a second. Make several, run them side by side, and let the numbers pick. (How to read those numbers: CPM, CPC, CTR and ROAS explained.)

Keep every claim true

"48 hours only", "never restocking", "last few left" work because people believe them. If they're not true, they stop working the moment customers notice, and they can break advertising rules. Use real deadlines, real stock levels and real prices. Plenty of brands scale with no offer at all; luxury brands often do better without one.

Creative checklist

  • Is the offer or hook on screen in the first 3 seconds?
  • Can you see the garment on a real person?
  • Is it 12–15 seconds with quick cuts, shot at 1080p or better?
  • Does it end with a call to action?
  • Are you testing a new concept this week, not just a new caption?
  • Do you have 2–3 static flyers running alongside the videos?
